Objectifs :
At the end of the training, PhD students will be able to :
- Cite and describe several classic public-facing science communication formats,
- Explain the advantages and limitations of these different formats,
- Describe actions carried out within the university or elsewhere, which can serve as a reference for new personal projects.

Programme :
This training will take the form of a short one-hour webinar, online on the Zoom platform. It will address the essential questions you should ask yourself before embarking on an outreach project, and share feedback from people with experience in this field. To be able to exchange with other PhD students, we advise you to have a stable connection and to be able to activate your microphone.

What kind of in person facilitated outreach activities can be set up inside your own laboratory?
Through examples and shared experience, we'll look at the various activities that can be set up in the laboratory, depending on your constraints, your audience and your personal objectives.

This course, offered as part of the université de Bordeaux's Science with and for Society label, will be led by a professional science communicator from TRACES association, and will enable you to meet and exchange ideas with a professional from the université de Bordeaux, if available.

After a short introduction to frame the webinar's subject and list the most classic in person formats that can be facilitate inside a laboratory, participants will be able to discuss examples, to see what they consider to be the strengths and limitations of each format.

Based on these discussions and the questions they raise, we'll talk to a researcher from the University of Bordeaux who has set up scientific mediation activities in his laboratory, to gain a better understanding of how this has been organized, and the successes and difficulties encountered.

Pré-requis :
Participation in the webinars “Goals and Formats of Science Communication” and “Graphic Facilitation as a Science Communication Tool” is a plus, but not necessary.

Méthode pédagogique :
The webinar is divided into a discussion phase in small groups, followed by a framing phase by the trainer and finally a discussion phase with a researcher who will have set up such actions.

Engaging in a discussion at the start of the course helps to mobilize and verbalize participants' knowledge, so that it can be more easily added to and linked to what is presented by the trainer, and generate relevant questions and answers during the final discussion phase.
