Objectifs :
At the end of the training, PhD students will be able to:
- explain strengths and limits of graphic facilitation formats
- describe actions carried out within the university or elsewhere, which can serve as a reference for new personal projects.

Programme :
This training will be a short one-hour webinar, online on Zoom. It will address the essential questions you should ask yourself before embarking on an outreach project, and provide an opportunity to discuss with experienced people on the subject. In order to be able to exchange with other PhD students, we advise you to have a stable connection and to be able to activate your microphone.

How can you use graphic facilitation (drawings, comics, graphic novels, etc.) to improve your science outreach projects?
Through examples and shared experience, we'll look together at the circumstances in which it's appropriate to use graphic facilitation when addressing some audiences and we'll underline the limits and advantages associated with this format.

As part of the University of Bordeaux's “Science with and for Society” label, this training course will be led by a professional science communicator from TRACES association, and will enable you to meet and discuss with a professional from the University of Bordeaux who has used this format, if available.

After a short introduction to frame the webinar topic and define what “graphic facilitation” is, participants will be able to discuss examples, to see what they see as the strengths and limitations of these projects.
Based on these discussions and the questions they raise, we'll talk to a researcher from the University of Bordeaux who uses graphic facilitation in his outreach projects, to better understand how it has been implemented.

Pré-requis :
Participation in the webinars “Goals and Formats of Science Communication” and “Live Outreach Action inside the Laboratory” is a plus, but not necessary.

Equipe pédagogique :
Paul Boniface ou Apolline Chabenat, association TRACES

Méthode pédagogique :
The webinar is divided into a discussion phase in small groups, followed by a framing phase by the trainer and finally a discussion phase with a researcher who will have set up an outreach project through graphic facilitation.
Engaging in a discussion at the start of the course helps to mobilize and verbalize participants' knowledge, so that it can be more easily added and linked to what is presented then, and generate questions and more relevant experience sharing during the last discussion phase with the researcher.

Compétences acquises à l'issue de la formation :
- Knowledge and understanding of the main issues involved in scientific outreach,
- Knowledge and understanding of the diversity of forms of scientific outreach and science communication,
- Knowledge and understanding of actions implemented at the University of Bordeaux and elsewhere, which can serve as references for the implementation of new actions.
