Programme :
The Doctoral College of the University of Montpellier is offering a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) course in September 2025.
This course has 40 places reserved specifically for doctoral students (classroom-based).
The FLE courses are intended only for students with a French language proficiency level from A0 to B2. From C1 level onwards, the DDL (Language Department) considers students to be autonomous and capable of following their specialized courses in French, therefore no additional language courses are provided for them.

>>To complete your registration and determine your language level, you will need to take the online placement test, which will be sent to you by email before the end of the registration period

This placement test allows students to be grouped according to their proficiency levels, in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This ensures that each student is placed in a class appropriate to their current French language skills.

Students who have never studied French should answer "complete beginner" and then not proceed with the test. It doesn't matter whether they write "beginner" or "complete beginner"; it's up to you to stop at this point. The platform does not recognize this type of response and will offer the test in all cases.

Schedule:
Start of classes: Monday, September 29th from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM
Holidays: November 24th - November 28th
Final exam (attendance mandatory): Wednesday, December 17th from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM

The classes will take place one evening per week from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM, Monday through Friday, depending on the group (classroom-based). The specific days of the classes will be communicated to you in due course. The teachers will contact their respective students with further information (program, room, etc.).

ATTENTION: Absences from the exam must be justified by a medical certificate or a study-related event (conference, internship, thesis defense).
Under no circumstances will a flight ticket for an early return to their home country (home university) be accepted as a valid justification, and will therefore result in a grade of 0/20 for the exam.

To ensure proper pedagogical monitoring of students and their progress, only students who can attend from the beginning to the end of the course (from September 29th to Wednesday, December 17th inclusive) are allowed to register for the FLE classes.

Class and vacation weeks are organized around the FDS teaching schedule. Students must attend all classes, even if they are on vacation according to their own department's academic calendar.
