Programme :
7 MODULES

Module 1. The most important step before writing: making choices (and why not making them complicates your writing)

In your head, the huge amount of knowledge is mixed with different emotions and it feels like an unmanageable chaos. You don't know where to start. You would like to put everything you have discovered into your thesis. But it doesn't all fit.
This first module consists of a series of questions that gradually help you to see the story you want to tell in your thesis - and what you need to tell it: your choices are made according to criteria you develop yourself.
At the end of the module, you have determined your focus: you hold the red thread that will guide you in structuring your text.

Module 2. Seven steps to elaborate the vision of your thesis (and formulate THE message of your thesis)

Having a clear picture of the story you want to tell in your thesis ensures the coherence and doability of the project. It shows you ways to emphasise the main novelty of your work.
At the end of this module, the story you are going to tell in your thesis has taken shape. You now know where you are going.

Module 3. The outline of your thesis: a structure that shows you the logic of your text (and why ignoring it makes you lose focus)

This module shows you how to structure your chapters in a logical way. A 2-dimension technique that provides a good overview on the whole project.
At the end of this module, you have a clear structure for your thesis. You see the way you need to follow to reach your goal.

Module 4. The typical mistake to avoid: writing without knowing if you have everything at hand

The better you organize your writing beforehand, the more efficient you will be. Classify your material according to your outline. This will give you a good overview of what you have - and what you may need to add.
At the end of this module you will know that you have all the material you need - which will make you feel better.

Module 5. Move from outline to the first draft – why wanting to write a perfect text from the beginning is a source of writer’s block

Writing is a process. This process consists in several steps. Each step has a particular goal. Mixing them leads to blocks and complicates your writing. In this module, you’ll discover a way to pass from the outline to the first draft quickly and easily.
At the end of this module you have understood why trying to write it right the first time a dangerous method is.

Module 6. From the first draft to the reader-friendly text

In this module you learn what to pay attention on to transform your first draft into an interesting and well-structured text. You improve your text step by step.
At the end of this module, you know a solid method to write a good text, even if English is not your mother tongue.

Module 7. How to make a good first impression

Structure your introduction and conclusion to emphasise the importance of your work to your scientific community. You learn the essential points to include in your introduction and in your conclusion. You also learn how to write a good thesis title and the abstract.
At the end of this module, you know the mistakes to avoid as well as tricks to arouse the reader's curiosity. You have all the elements in hand to make the reader want to read your thesis from the start.

SCHEDULE
1) individual work on your own whenever you want (2 hours/day in average)
2) live sessions via Zoom from 2.00-4.00 p.m.(mandatory).
3) Individual meeting via Zoom from 4.00-5.00 p.m (optional).


Pré-requis :
It is necessary to :
- have completed the main part of the research and be prepared to write,
- be in 2nd year of study or more, or study for a VAE qualification.
- write a monography (NOT a thesis on articles).

Méthode pédagogique :
You work on your own thesis project: this course is 100% practical. You write under instructions, building your text step by step.
You don't only learn what to do - you do it.

The course alternates four ways of working:
1) individual work on your own. A video guides you step by step in exercises to do. You work whenever you want. The exercises must be completed by the scheduled time in order to continue with the group. Please schedule 2 hours a day for the individual work.
2) live sessions via Zoom from 2.00-5.00 p.m.:
- group work with the trainer - Questions and Answers
- peer groups - feedback on your texts, written in (1)
- individual coaching from 4.00 to 5.00 pm on the same dates - optional: the meeting is public for group members - you can listen in if you wish.

Compétences acquises à l'issue de la formation :
At the end of this course, you will have learnt how to :
- develop a working strategy for writing your dissertation based on your needs
- organise your knowledge into a clear, well-constructed text that highlights the originality of your work
- implement organisational and time management methods that you will gradually put in place during the course.

- Mettre en œuvre les méthodes et les outils de la recherche en lien avec l’innovation

Bloc 4 : Veille scientifique et technologique à l’échelle internationale

- Acquérir, synthétiser et analyser les données et informations scientifiques et technologiques d’avant-garde à l’échelle internationale

- Disposer d’une compréhension, d’un recul et d’un regard critique sur l’ensemble des informations de pointe disponibles

- Disposer de la curiosité, de l’adaptabilité et de l’ouverture nécessaire pour se former et entretenir une culture générale de haut niveau

Bloc 5 : Formation et diffusion de la culture scientifique et technique

- Rendre compte et communiquer en plusieurs langues des travaux à caractère scientifique et technologique en direction de publics ou publications différents, à l’écrit comme à l’oral

- S’adapter à un public varié pour communiquer et promouvoir des concepts et démarches d’avant-garde

Compétences sociales

- Adaptation ; Persévérance ; Résilience ; Gestion du changement et de l'échec ; Engagement

- Créativité, capacité à imaginer et formuler des idées originales ; Souplesse d'esprit et ouverture à la nouveauté
