Objectifs :
All researchers have already received numerous emails like “your work entitled […] has attracted our attention, we would like to invite you to submit your next research in our journal etc.”. This formation is here to give students the tools to discriminate between serious proposals and frauds from predatory journals and conferences. More generally, the students will learn how to evaluate the quality of a scientific journal for the time when they will search where to publish their work.

Programme :
Lecture. Presentation content: what is the normal publication process in a scientific journal and conference ? What is predatory journal or conference ? How to make the difference between a serious scientific journal or conference and a predatory one? What are the risks of publishing in a predatory journal or conference?
Practical. Case studies based on emails received by the lecturer or by the students. The students investigate in small teams about the journals and conference advertised in the emails, then share their findings with the full group. In order to have examples from various fields to investigate, the student are requested to keep the invitation-to-publish emails they receive.

Pré-requis :
This training is not relevant for humanities and social sciences students because these fields are not much polluted by predatory journals and conferences.
