Programme :
The Doctoral College of the University of Montpellier offers a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) course in February 2026.
This course has 40 places specifically reserved for doctoral students (in person).
FLE courses are intended only for students with a French proficiency level ranging from A0 to B2. From level C1 onward, the DDL (Department of Languages) considers students to be autonomous and capable of following their specialized courses in French, therefore, no additional language courses are provided for them.

>> To complete your registration and determine your language level, you will need to take the online placement test, which will be sent to you by email from January 5th

This placement test allows students to be grouped according to their proficiency levels, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This ensures that each student is placed in a class appropriate to their current French language skills.

Students who have never studied French should answer "complete beginner" and then not continue with the test. It doesn't matter if they write "beginner" or "complete beginner," it's up to you to stop at that point. The platform does not recognize this type of response and will offer the test in any case.

Schedule:
Start of classes: Monday, February 2, 2026, from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM
Vacation: From March 2, 2026, to March 8, 2026
Final exam (mandatory attendance): Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM

The classes will take place one evening per week from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM, from Monday to Friday, depending on the group (in person). The exact days of the classes will be communicated to you in due time. The teachers will contact their respective students with additional information (schedule, room, etc.).

ATTENTION: Absences from the exam must be justified by a medical certificate or a study-related event (conference, internship, thesis defense).
In no case will a plane ticket for an early return to their country of origin (home university) be accepted as valid justification, and will therefore result in a score of 0/20 for the exam.

To ensure adequate pedagogical monitoring of students and their progress, only students who can attend the entire course (from February 2, 2026, to April 22, 2026) are allowed to enroll in FLE courses.

The weeks of classes and vacations are organized around the FDS teaching calendar. Students must attend all classes, even if they are on vacation according to their own department's academic calendar.
